London Day 3!

Day One

Yay! This is the first actual post from our trip! Well, we've only been here for three days and there's lots to update about so bear with me.

Guess I should start with the plane ride. It was looong and tedious. First of all, our flight was cancelled 13 hours before we were supposed to leave. We were supposed to stop in Houston before going from there straight to London. But hurricane Ike made that quite impossible. We got to the airport in Vancouver at about 530am to try and figure out what new flight we were going to get. We were fairly determined to leave on that day so we were willing to take pretty much anything. We got a flight that was stopping in LA for a few hours and that left at 1245pm Vancouver time.

The first flight was not bad. It was only 3 hours and we were all fairly awake and geared up to go and in a fairly good mood. When we got into LAX we went all the way to the other side of the airport because we thought we were taking a Continental flight but we were really supposed to be on a Virgin Atlantic one so we had to go allll the way back to the other side of the airport again and check-in. We cut it pretty close for boarding and we were all fairly tired and annoyed at this point.

The flight was pretty posh. There were 8 seats in a row. Two on either side and then four in the middle. We also got these cool little gift bag things from Virgin Atlantic, which contained a pen, a toothbrush, a little toothpaste, a pair of socks, and one of those sleep mask things. There was also TVs in the back of the seats with quite a number of movies, TV shows, and music to listen to.

When we got into London we basically just went to the hostel and hung out until 7pm when we passed out. Didn't wake up until 8am the next day. XD

Day Two

Day two was quite a bit more interesting than day one. We decided to head down to the Soho area (around Piccadilly Tube Station) which was pretty awesome. There was lots of theatre-ee buildings. It was the shinyest part of London I've seen so far. Which is a little bit misleading because Lodon isn't shiny at all. It's really old and full of history and sort of feels like you're walking through a museum. But soho has lots of shops and neon lights and casinos and things. Quite the interesting contradiction.

We stopped in to the National Portrait Gallery for a bit. It's free like most other museums and galleries in London. So we were game for that. It was pretty surreal to see all those paintings done so many hundreds of years ago. But we got bored of it pretty quick. And we didn't get to see the one of Daniel Radcliffe because you had to pay to see it. Lame.

Then we went to Trafalgar Square which was awesome! They have these four big lions that you're allowed to climb on. They're rather difficult to get on top of though. Jess and I took that as a challenge. Haha...we made it up there eventually. Many pictures were taken to prove our conquering. :D

We then decided to head down to the Library by King's Cross station. YES! We did run at platform 9 and 3/4. MANY TIMES. And it was fun. Don't judge me.

The library was cooler than I thought. They had a little exhibit with 1 of the 3 surviving Magna Cartas. Also original Beatles lyrics, a Gutenberg Bible, Beethoven's original notebook, and Shakespeares signature! I was pretty stoked about all of that. XD

Then we went to Copenhagen Street. Just because it was/is called Copenhagen Street. It was worth it.

We grabbed some grub and a pint at a Irish Pub near our hostel. Guiness tastes different here. :/ Still good, but different.

Jess and I went for a walk afterward. Sat beside a cemetery. Called Wesley, made me a little sad. Walked some more. Found a park, chatted in the park, found some foxes, chased the foxes. Talked about beating people up. Got a wee bit lost. Found our way back. Fell asleep.

Day Three

Well today has been fairly uneventful. Was going to go to Buckingham Palace with Jess and Caro but was feeling awful. AWFUL! I had to go back to the hostel and lie down until 5pm (now). I feel better now, though. Maybe I'll write an e-mail to Wesley. Because I miss him. A lot. :(

Sorry this entry is so point-form like and rather non-cohesive and grammatically inncorrect (not to mention my awful spelling). Wanted to update you guys but didn't really feel like typing. XD

Until next time!
KATIE
